The Star Trek trading card set released by LEAF in 1967 was the first Star Trek set released. The set was only released on a limited scale due to the company’s small distribution area (Ohio and Illinois), and was quickly recalled as a result of licensing issues. As such, it is extremely rare. The cards contained black and white images from various episodes, as well as blooper images from filming, coupled with reverse-side text that was largely fabricated, and had little connection to the episode the image originated from. In the mid-1990s, a dealer claimed to have discovered “a European version” of the same series (not a reprint, but decades old cards which were never released). A decade or so later, it was revealed to be a hoax. The dealer had received a letter from Paramount saying the cards were fake, and he copied the letterhead and signature to create a false letter of authorization. The cards were in fact, 1980s (unauthorized) reprints.

It was kept in one of those magnetic photo albums (before acid free) so it has little faint lines on the backside where it was against the album page for all these years. They come off incrementally when I use an adhesive type remover. There is also a tiny bump on the front left corner and on the back… A small missing strip right on the left edge (about 1.5mm) There is also a faint amount of sticky from having a piece of scotch tape across the front top edge. This card is listed on other sites at very very high prices and I would say overall this is good/fair shape. These cards weren’t meant to be collectible so they didn’t use great paper. The company that made them didn’t even have a license to sell these and they were quickly pulled off the market so they are in a very limited number. This seems to be the most sought after card. They have been in the photo album a long time. If there is an item you want, please ask. I will also consider offers on all of my items. But I’m doing it over on Etsy…. STAR TREK Original 1967 Leaf rare Gum Card Wrapper Shatner Nimoy Kirk Spock. This STAR TREK 1967 Leaf Gum Card Wrapper is an Original and not a reproduction. Theres a vertical tear to the left of William Shatner and tape has been applied to it on the back of the wrapper, theres some color loss in the blue area above the stars at the top edge of the wrapper. The white area of the wrapper has creasing and theres some wear along the edges of blue portion of the wrapper. But when the wrapper is folded as if cards were in it, the square center blue colored area with all the graphics of Kirk and Spock, the Enterprise, the stars and the Star Trek and Leaf logo present as Mint. The colors are bright and vibrant and the color registration is great! Star Trek 1967 Leaf Wrappers rarely turn up for sale. This is a great piece of early Star Trek memorabilia from when the show first aired! All items come from a smoke free home.
