This piece was done in 1973 and is signed by Barr lower left. It is as far as we know the only Star Trek piece that George Barr did in his career. Barr did many science fiction covers, fanzine work, and even gaming work. He is in our opinion an under-rated artist. Frame measures 15 3/4 inches by 12 3/4 inches. Mat opening measures 10.5 inches by 8 1/8 inches. Actual artwork image measures 10 x 7 1/2 inches. Action scene featuring the best Star Trek characters we all know and love: Commander Spock, Captain James T. Kirk, Lieutenant Uhura, Nurse Christine Chapel and a fantastic robot. And an un-named crew member firing the phaser. I wonder what happens to him . As far as we know this has not been published. Classic Barr work, with pen work on paper and watercolor washes over top of that, and a few highlights (most notably here the phaser blast) over top of that. Done in a two-panel comic book style, with the bottom panel action crossing into the top panel. Fresh to the market, our consignor bought this piece from a well known California science fiction dealer many years ago and it has been in her collection ever since. His work is often romantic and whimsical. His technique involves overlaying pen and ink line work with pastel watercolors. The volume debuted at MidAmeriCon, the 34th World Science Fiction Convention, where Barr was the convention’s Fan Guest of Honor, along with Robert A.
