Was a toy company founded in 1954 by D. Originally known as a purveyor of dime store. In 1971 the company shifted direction and became famous for producing licensed action figures. MEGO created there first figures in boxes but the S. Kresge store (later Kmart Stores) did not have the shelving dimensions which to display the toys and requested something be designed for there peg board display. TALOS, one of the last four figures released in the Star Trek series “so the 2nd issued Alien” (along with “THE ROMULAN” “ANDORIAN” & “MUGATO”) CHECK OUT THE SALE OF MY OTHER STAR TREK ALIENS TO INCLUDE SOME OF THESE AND MORE. Produced for one year only, 1976, extremely rare for this reason and also, so the story goes, a warehouse fire that destroyed the stock. TALOS appeared in the episode “The Cage”. Mego forewent the robe Talos wore in the episode in favour of a fantastic Canary yellow jump suit with red boot’s (you wouldn’t want to see this guy down a dark alley). The figure, which is close to shop stock condition, comes on the “14 back card” the only way this figure was released with a artists rendition of the 5 Star fleet & 9 Star Trek Alien figures, note all the characters have there name printed under them. The illustrated front of the card you will notice (again correct for this last issue) instead of having the pictures of the characters to the front has the fantastic alien landscape with the two satellite planets to the back, unobstructed with pictures to the front leaves this last issued set as the very best for display purposes, with just the figure in bubble and fantastic moon scape image, unique to this issue and in my opinion, although not quite at rare as the PALITOY carded figures a better display piece with the Palitoy card having all the pictures of the other characters to the front. The original figure in factory sealed original bubble is stunning, non of the usual damage associated with this figure. The leatherette material can be found cracked and mottled having lost most of its pliability, in the case of this guy it’s mint, the black/gold trim to the collar and to the bottom of the suit leg usually has thread that is unravelling due to poor sewing, the seamstress who suited and booted him was a old hand at MEGO with the jump suit being well made even for a sealed up Talos. He’s also been kept out of sun light and UV ray’s with the colours of all the materials nice and bright, looking at his limbs they all look in tacked, all in all a stunning, extremely good looking Talos. The 14 back card is very very good, a un-punched card with non of the usual surface creases in the cardboard, the card is very crisp and bright front and back the bubble has a small dimple in it on the corners edge, a manufacturing defect, with a 3 millimeter area of lift where the glue has not taken to the bottom where the bubble profile, looks like a upturned U, arc’s round under his feet, to the front surface of the bubble there is the smallest of surface rub’s on close inspection. An extremely rare item possible only a few out there in this close to shop stock condition.
