This astonishing natural smoky quartz pyramid ring is an artisan piece hand crafted in the late mid century period circa 1970. It is certainly of space age inspiration. The lines are geometric and almost architectural. It is reminiscent to an obelisk somehow to me and I guess that is because of the square setting that rises off the finger holding the pyramid securely in place. Every section of this ring is handmade with no cast or machined components. This is a special feature- today jewelry tends to be cast- but the work to make a piece like this by hand from scratch represents a couple of days of skilled jewelers time at the very minimum! The smoky quartz is natural and is transparent you can see right into it and get lovely shades of colors in different light. I love the subtle color of this natural gem it’s classy and makes a very versatile gem to have in your jewelry wardrobe as it goes so well with just about any choice of clothing. This ring is an original ring from the period and often that amazes me. It looks astonishing today when we are exposed and familiar with modernist lines and styling- but venture in your mind back to the late 60s or early 70s and this design was cutting edge- a style nobody had imagined or ever seen before! It is currently a size 7 1/4 US. The top of the ring measures 9/16″ long down the finger with the setting from shoulder to shoulder measuring in at 13/16″ wide and rising 1/2 high off the finger (14mmm x 20mm x 12mm). It is in good condition and looks special on. There is age appropriate patina to the fine silver that does attest to this collectible piece being from the mid century era and not in the style of as so many pieces these days are. To me the patina to the silver adds an extra dimension of beauty to the ring and the stark geometric lines – it gives it more mystery… More presence but the texture to the silver from 40 years of wear does add something special visually.
